Jalaka River Flows Above Danger Level After Incessant Rainfall in Balasore, Odisha

Balasore: Incessant rainfall in Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts has resulted in the rise of water level in Jalaka river. Today, the water was reportedly flowing above the danger mark.

The floodwater is flowing over the danger mark of 5.5 metres near Mathani and has touched 6.50 metres today morning, said sources.

Reports said that the upper-catchment areas of Jalaka river at Mayurbhanj’s Rasagobindpur, Morada, Chitrada, Suliapada areas have been receiving very heavy rainfall and that has resulted in the swelling of the river.

If the water levels continue to increase then farmlands close to the Jalaka river might also get waterlogged, informed the Water Resources department officials.

Low pressure coupled with SW monsoon has also brought moderate to intense rainfall in the districts of Kendrapada, Malkangiri and Dhenkanal causing a flood situation. Several areas of the districts were waterlogged. While no loss of life has been reported as of Monday, several kuccha houses were damaged, farmlands inundated and animals stranded.
