Prisoner Number 7486, Serving Life Imprisonment In Itishree Murder Case Breathes Last In Koraput Jail

Koraput: Netrananda Dandasena or prisoner number 7486 breathed his last in Koraput jail today early morning. He was serving life imprisonment after being found guilty in 2014 murder case of a Tikiri teacher Itishree Pradhan.

Dandasena complained of uneasiness and he was transferred to Sahid Laxman Nayak hospital at about 12 am last night. He passed away today early morning. The cause of death is yet to be ascertained.

The unfortunate murder of non-formal teacher Itishree Pradhan in the remote village of Tikiri under Kashipur Block in the Rayagada district in 2014 had generated nationwide uproar and consternation.

The inaction of the local government officials was highly blamed as media highlighted the issue. The State Government had then directed the CID (Crime Branch) to investigate the case.

This is one of the rare cases where CBI has not been able to trace out the main accused.

Basing on public interest litigation (PIL) filed by a law graduate from Bengaluru, Sudeepta Lenka, the Supreme Court had directed further investigation by CBI to apprehend the main accused in the case.

Finally, in 2016, accused Netrananda Dondasena was charge-sheeted and faced trial in the Rayagada District & Sessions Judge. In 2017, he was shifted to Koraput Jail from Rayagada Jail.
