Bhubaneswar: Soma Mondal has been selected by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) as the next chairman of Steel Authority of India Limited. She will be taking charge when the present Chairman retires.
Her appointment is subject to approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
If the ACC gives its approval, she will make history with the rare distinction of being the first woman chairperson of SAIL.
Soma Mondal had her schooling from BJB College and St Joseph’s School here in Bhubaneswar.
She is an alumna of National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (then REC Rourkela) and passed out as an Electrical Engineer. She belonged to the first batch of GET of SAIL in 1984. Later she joined the Commercial Department of SAIL. Mandal then moved on to become the Regional Manager of NALCO (Western Region) at Mumbai. The region gave record performance under her.
Mondal had taken over as Director (Commercial) of SAIL in September 2018. Prior to this, she was Director (Commercial), NALCO, Bhubaneswar which was history in making as was NALCO’s first-ever female director.
