Bhubaneswar: Renowned Odia litterateur Padma Shri Binapani Mohanty was conferred with the prestigious Atibadi Jagannath Das Samman for the year 2019 on Saturday by the Odisha Sahitya Akademi for her contribution towards Odia literature.
She was presented the award by Odisha Culture Minister Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi at her residence in Cuttack. She was felicitated with a Citation, an ‘Uttariya’ (shawl) along with a cheque of Rs 1 lakh.
Congratulating Mohanty, the Minister called upon all other writers to follow her footsteps. Accepting the honour Mohanty said that she feels proud for the award. She also urged for some government help for the Utkala Lekhika Sangha.
Mohanty, a retired professor of Economics, had received the Sahitya Akademi award in 1990 and was awarded the Padma Shri in 2020. She has many short stories and novels to her credit. Her works have been translated into around eight languages.
