Berhampur: Shops Fined, Closed For Violating COVID ‘Panchasutra’ Norms

Berhampur: From rapid testing to extensive contact tracing, door-to-door screening and 24X7 patrolling to ensure people abide by the Covid-19 guidelines, the Ganjam district administration took several measures to contain the spread of Coronavirus. And now, the district which once regarded as the Covid hostpot region has largely succeeded in bringing the virus under control.

However, many people still in several markets under Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) in Ganjam are still found flouting five-point strategy (Panchasutra) issued by the district administration for all the shopkeepers.

The BeMC reportedly raided some jewellery and cloth stores at Bada Bazaar and Annapurna Market in the town and sealed them for not adhering to Panchasutra which includes double barricading, use of mask, sanitizers and handwashing, social distancing and maintaining contact diary.

Some violators were also fined for defying the Covid-19 guidelines.

Berhampur Sub-Divisional Manager (SDM) Sweta Kumar Das, local Tehsildar and other officials were present during the raids, added reports.
