“Varsha Priyadarshini Continually mentally tortured Me” – Accusing Mental Torture by Varsha, Anubhav Mohanty Files For Divorce

Bhubaneswar: Stating that his wife Varsha Priyadarshini continually mentally tortured him and his family, Kendrapada MP Anubhav Mohanty had filed for divorce at Patiala House Court, Delhi five weeks ago. The matter came to light today after reports of Varsha filing a domestic violence case against Anubhav had come to fore on Saturday.

In the 47-page divorce petition filed on July 16, the actor turned politician states the mental anguish that he had to go through in his marriage of 6 years with Ollywood Actress Varsha Priyadarshini.

Anubhav mentions that even though they were married from 2016-till date, they have stayed together only for a period of 18 months. And these 18 months were ‘full of cruelty, tyranny, misery, harassment and suffering’ for Anubhav and his family.

It is also very clearly mentioned in the divorce petition that their marriage was never consummated since Varsha kept refusing for maintenance of physical relationship and kept asking for more and more time. Anubhav states that he respected her decision and initially let her take her time. In this duration, he tried to woo her but in vain.

In his petition, Anubhav accuses Varsha of humiliating and disregarding him and his family on multiple occasions. He further adds that she hardly stayed at her matrimonial house and that she used to create fake situations to instigate a fight. Varsha is also accused of never trying to mingle with her in-laws and looking for reasons to leave Anubhav and her matrimonial house.

Anubhav mentions of various occasions such as that of his house warming in Delhi which Varsha did not attend despite repeated requests.

He adds that Varsha had been falsely accusing him infidelity and had even threatened to file false criminal cases against him and his family.

In closing, he mentions that as a couple they had stayed in Delhi after his re-election as an MP and hence the case rightly comes under the jurisdiction of Patiala House Court. Secondly, since Varsha has till date made no efforts to make the relationship work and has continually harassed Anubhav, their marriage is irretrievably broken.

Thirdly, Anubhav states that there are no legal grounds for the relief sought by Varsha since she belongs to an affluent family and is the owner of several movable and immovable property.

Notably, the divorce petition by Anubhav was filed at least five weeks ahead of a domestic violence and maintenance suit filed by Varsha Priyadarshini.

On August 7, Varsha had filed a motion seeking maintenance of Rs 50,000 per month, compensation of Rs 13 crores due to loss of earnings, and medical expenses of Rs 2 crore. In her petition, she had accused Anubhav of being a womaniser, abuser and a drunkard. She had stated that Anubhav and his family and left her alone in Odisha and left for Delhi just before the lockdown was imposed.
