Covid-19 Effect: No Durga Puja Celebration In Cuttack Pandals This Year

Cuttack: In view of the Covid-19 pandemic, the district administration today decided not to allow holding of Durga Puja in any pandal/mandap in Cuttack city.

“In view of the Covid-19 pandemic no permission will be granted pandals/mandaps to conduct Durga Puja this year,” Cuttack Collector and District Magistrate Bhabani Shankar Chayani told reporters here today.

Earlier in the day, Cuttack Balu Bazaar Puja Committee filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Orissa High Court seeking to allow Durga Puja celebrations in the city keeping in view the 500-year-old tradition. The committee in its petition has assured the court to abide by all COVID-19 guidelines.
It may be noted here that the Commissionerate Police had not allowed holding of community celebration of Ganesh Puja in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
