Odisha Legislative Assembly To Convene Before Sep 30, Says Speaker Surjya Patro

Bhubaneswar: The next session of Odisha Legislative Assembly is very likely to be held prior to September 30. Amid COVID-19 scare, the Legislature of the State is charting strategies to convene the Assembly session by adhering to social distancing norms.

Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro said that he is in consultation with Speakers of Rajasthan and Karnataka about standard norms and procedures to hold the session amid COVID pandemic.

“I have spoken to my Rajasthan and Karnataka counterparts over holding of the Assembly session during COVID-19 pandemic. Besides, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha sessions will also be held soon. We are keeping an eye on the upcoming Parliament sessions as well,” said Patro.

The last session of Odisha Assembly was held on March 30 this year. As per the rule, the next session should be held within six months. Accordingly, the House should be in session before deadline of September 30, he said.

“The venue for the sessions is yet to be ascertained. We will fix the date for the session after consulting with the Governor and the Chief Minister,” Patro said.
