Sarpanch Imposes 5-Day Shutdown In Jharsuguda’s Hirma

Jharsuguda: In the wake of six workers of SMC Power Generation Plant at Himra gram panchayat in Jharsuguda district testing positive for COVID-19, the Sarpanch imposed a 5-day shutdown in the panchayat by exercising ‘Collector’s power’.

Reportedly, the number of COVID-19 cases is at a rise in the district and around six workers of the power plant have tested positive for the disease in the last two days, which has created panic in the area.

In view of this, hundreds of women from the panchayat staged a protest in front of the plant premises today while adhering to the COVID-19 protocol of maintaining social distance and wearing masks.

On getting information, the district administration along with police reached the spot and tried to pacify them. Later, exercising Collector’s power, granted by the State Government, Sarpanch Anita Bhainsa declared a 5-day shutdown of the panchayat.
