Bhubaneswar: Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradip Jena has issued an advisory to all Collectors in view of the low pressure area formed over North Bay of Bengal and India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting heavy rainfall activity over Odisha.
The SRC has asked Collectors to closely watch and monitor the situation as water logging may arise in low lying areas.
“District administration to remain in readiness to meet any eventuality and advice for fishermen to be strictly followed,” the SRC’s message to Collectors said.
Fishermen have been warned not to venture into sea along and off Odisha coast and North Bay of Bengal on 4&5 August.
“A low pressure area has formed today morning over North Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood and now lies over North Bay of Bengal off West Bengal-Bangladesh coast. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting south-westward with height. It is likely to become more marked during next 24 hours,” the SRC has stated quoting from IMD’s special bulletin-2 issued today.
The IMD has said that under the influence of low pressure area over north Bay of Bengal off West Bengal-Bangladesh coast and strong monsoon current, surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely over north Bay of Bengal and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, also squally weather with strong surface wind speed occasionally reaching 40-50 kmph along and off Odisha coast on 4&5 August.

Orange Warning: heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Sambalpur with extremely heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Jajpur and Mayurbhanj.
Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul, Deogarh, Koraput, Nawarangpur and Kalahandi.
Day 2 – (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 05.08.2020 upto 0830 hrs IST of 06.08.2020.
Orange Warning: heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Sambalpur, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sundargarh.
Yellow Warning: heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Keonjhar, Angul, Nuapada, Sonepur and Bolangir.
Day 3 – (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 06.08.2020 up to 0830 hrs IST of 07.08.2020.)
Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
