Setting Examples : Bhanjanagar Sub Collector Performs Last Rites Of Abandoned Body

Berhampur: Sub-Collector of Bhanjanagar Rajendra Minz has performed an exemplary act of humanity on Tuesday. Minz and his team performed the last rites of a 65-year-old man who died due to Covid-19 at Bhanjanagar Dedicated Covid Care Centre last night.

The body of this man was lying deserted in the hospital as no one from his family turned up to claim and shift it for the funeral. The fear of contracting Covid is forcing people to treat their own (deceased) as outcasts, which is a sorry scenario.

When Minz was informed about this, he rushed with a team of staff to the hospital and decided to perform the last rites of this person on their own.

The Sub-Collector was accompanied by Public Relations Officer Fakir Mohan Majhi, Revenue Assistants Biswajit Sethi, Fakir Mohan Swain, and Balaram Jani and Surendra Sethi, to the cremation ground located on the border of Bhanjanagar town.

Packed in PPEs, adhering to Covid guidelines, Minz’s team acted professionally demonstrating the highest standards of humanity. The cremation was completed at around 12:30 am at night. The efforts of Minz and his team have garnered heaps of praises in the Ganjam district.
