Bhubaneswar: Director couple Sisir Kumar Sahu and Peenakee Singh Rajput are excited about their upcoming Odia movie, ‘Charitra’. The trailer of this crime thriller will be released on Tuesday.

Shot extensively in HAL colony in Koraput, the movie stars Partha Sarathi Ray, Ananya Mishra, Gargi Mohanty, Hara Ratha and Dipanwith Dasmohaptra.

Partha Sarathi Ray plays sub-collector Abhishek Pattnaik, who is leading a happy life with his beautiful wife Madhu., and then comes a twist in their life, which propels the story forward.

A song from the movie is already available on YouTube:

Sisir said that the idea of the movie came to them while he along with Peenakee were on a vacation in Koraput. “It was rainy season and the drenched ambience was very beautiful and soothing. It was at that moment that we decided to shoot ‘Charitra’ there,” he said.

The movie was shot at HAL colony from January 8 to 20 in 2020. “We picked winter as my aunt had said that the area looked even more beautiful during this season. The temperature would drop to 5 to 6 degree Celsius,” said the director, who along with his wife is on a mission to make movie watching an interesting affair for the cine lovers of Odisha.

Since HAL is a highly restricted area, they had to seek the permission of the authorities to shoot there. “We thought it would be a challenge to convince the authorities. Their response, however, came as a surprise. We were provided with quarters and electricity for the shoot,” he said.

During the shoot, the team had a scary moment. “Around 2 am, we got to know about the presence of two wild bears at our base camp. The shot was immediately stopped and we switched off all the lights,” he said.

After waiting for one and a half years, the film will finally be released on Majari TV at 6 pm on April 25. “The pandemic had stalled the post-production of ‘Charitra’. Though the movie was planned for theatre, we decided on releasing it on television considering the current COVID-19 situation,” he added.

The couple’s next movie ‘Daalcheeni’ is a travel love story produced by Aao Next and Ritupriya Production. It was shot along the Marine Drive.

‘Hubris’, a short film directed by Sisir and Peenakee, was screened at the 13th Jaipur International Film Festival on January 18.
