Google rolls out real-time auto translate feature for JioPhone in 5 Indian languages

Internet search giant Google has announced it is rolling out the support for Google Assistant’s auto-translate feature for handsets running on KaiOS in India

This real-time text auto translate feature is currently available for English and various Indian languages such as Hindi, Bengali, Telgu, Marathi and Tamil. Soon, it is also expected to be available for Kannada and Gujurati.

In a blog post, Google says that nine out of ten of these new users are non-English speakers. “While many would be fluent at speaking and understanding their native language, there are others who might struggle when it comes to reading and writing it.

The latest feature on KaiOS can be used by simply pressing the right soft key once within Assistant. Alternatively, they can open the Assistant by long pressing the center button from the home screen, use the camera icon to point the phone at the text they want to translate and have the device read it back in their preferred language, translated or defined.

Google claims that this feature works for real-world texts – such as product lables, street signs, documents etc.
