Odia Short Movie ‘Abhilash’ Shines At Cannes Film Festival

Bhubaneswar: Bringing laurels for the State, an Odia short movie named Abhilash has been screened at the Cannes International Film Festival in France.

The flick, which is based on the COVID-19 lockdown, has entered the final round of selection by the juries of nine countries including one from India.

Directed by Guru Krishna Chandra Sahu, director of Nrutya Kala Gabesana Kendra at Hinjilicut in Gajam, the short film garnered rare reviews jury of the international film fest.

Expressing joy over the success, Sahu said, “We are delighted that a Hinjilicut-based movie has been screened at Cannes Film Festival in France. The film is based on lockdown with a message to stay safe during the pandemic and has won many national and international awards.

Out of 82 films nominated for screening at the festival, four including ‘Abhilash’ are from India.

In view of the pandemic, the Cannes Film Festival has been cancelled this year. However, the organisers had planned to screen films from this year’s Official Selection.
