COVID-19: BMC Predicts 5000 Active COVID-19 Cases In Bhubaneswar By Sep 15

Bhubaneswar: In view of the growing cases of COVID-19 in Odisha, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has worked out on two scenarios on the number of active cases under its jurisdiction by August-end and mid-September.

BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary today said that there are around 2600 active cases of COVID-19 in Bhubaneswar to date; there may be 3429 active cases by August 31 and around 5000 active cases by September 15.

He informed that the BMC has worked out all the details about the segregation of cases. The target is to keep around 40 to 50 percent cases in Home Isolation by the end of August as 80 percent of the cases in Bhubaneswar are asymptomatic.

In view of this, the BMC has done a backward calculation of the available COVID facilities in the city and found that they are sufficient and Bhubaneswar is in a comfortable situation.

Chaudhary further informed that at the request of the BMC, many private organisations and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) in Bhubaneswar have set up Covid Care Homes (CCHs) or Covid Care Centres (CCCs) with a total capacity of 450 beds.

He requested other such organisations and associations to set up such facilities for their employees or members to facilitate treatment not far from their workplace or residence.
