Orissa HC Directs State Govt To Hike Home Guards Allowance To Rs 533

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today directed the State Government to raise the daily allowance of Home Guards to Rs 533. The hike will be implemented with retrospective effect from January 2020, the HC ordered.

In February this year, the Orissa High Court had directed the Odisha Government to pay Home Guards an allowance equivalent to the minimum monthly pay of the Police Constables.

A single-Judge bench of Justice Biswanath Rath had issued the order on a petition filed by Prakash Kumar Jena and two others seeking direction to the Government to implement the 2015 Supreme Court order.

Odisha has approximately 18,000 home guards, who are not regular employees. The State Government had challenged the February 28 judgment, appealing the HC to pay Rs 500 duty allowance per day to the Home Guards.

Today, the High Court in its order, directed the State Government to increase the daily allowance of Home Guards to Rs 533. The hike will be implemented with retrospective effect from January 1, 2020, within a period of three months from the date (August 19) of the judgment, the HC ordered.
