COVID-19: Odisha Records Highest Single-Day Spike Of 2924 Cases, Death Toll 343

Bhubaneswar: For the second consecutive day, Odisha reported 2400-plus COVID-19 cases. A highest single-day spike of 2924 cases were reported from Odisha in the last 24 hours, taking the coronavirus tally in the State to 60050 on Sunday.

The COVID-19 death toll in the State also rose to 343 after 10 persons succumbed to the disease in the past 24 hours. Two COVID-19 deaths each were reported from Ganjam and Bhubaneswar while one each death was reported from Bhadrak, Cuttack, Sonepur, Jajpur, Kandhamal and Bolangir.

A record 52,795 samples were tested in the State in the past 24 hours including 10240 RT-PCR -tests, Antigen (42414) and TrueNat (141) tests. A total of 47,887 tests were conducted yesterday.
Of the 2924 new cases, 1815 were reported from quarantine centres while 1109 are local contact cases.

A maximum of 488 new COVID-19 cases were reported from Khordha district while 10 other districts in Odisha reported 100-plus positive cases.

The district-wise breakup of cases- Ganjam (318), Jajpur (200), Cuttack (189), Sundergarh (161), Puri (144), Nayagarh (142), Mayurbhanj (136), Balasore (127), Rayagada (116) and Bhadrak (107).

It is pertinent to mention here that the COVID-19 graph is registering an upward trend since August 1.

As per official data, the State had reported 1876 new COVID-19 cases on August 12, 1981 cases on August 13 and 1977 cases on August 14. The State had reported the highest single-day spike of 2496 cases on August 15.
