74th Independence Day celebrations at Puri: Details are here

Puri: In the light of the prevalent COVID 19 situation in the country, keeping in consonance with the government directives and guidelines to the effect, and regarding the observation of the Independence Day 2020 across the state, the 74th Independence Day ceremony was held at Talabania Sports Stadium in Puri with due pomp and dignity, whilst taking utmost care to ensure social distancing among guests, wearing of masks and avoidance of congregations in any form.

The Collector & DM, Puri Sri Balwant Singh, IAS unfurled the national flag at 9.15 am today as Chief Guest. In his address to the people of the district, he paid rich tributes to the freedom fighters who had laid their lives for the cause of attaining independence for the country. He exuded confidence that given the all round preparedness of the district administration in battling the pandemic, the same will be vanquished with the support of the masses who must strictly adhere to all Covid 19 related stipulations and guidelines. He appealed the people to extend warmth and cooperation to people who return home after being cured from the Corona infections.

30 numbers of corona warriors from health and police departments, Puri Municipality and DSWO were felicitated by the Chief Guest on the occasion for rendering great services to the cause from their respective departments.

SP, Puri Sri Akhileswar Singh, IPS was present on the dais with the Chief Guest.The national anthem was played by the police band and two platoons of police force participated in the ceremony. The guests later planted saplings at the ground.
