Bhubaneswar: Another dedicated COVID hospital is likely to start functioning in Cuttack district by the end of next week. According to Collector Bhabani Shankar Chainy, in a bid to ramp up COVID treatment facility in the district, a new COVID hospital is being planned. The hospital is expected to be functional next week.
In terms of the number of COVID-19 positive cases detected so far, Cuttack comes third district-wise. The district has reported more than 3,000 cases out of which more than 50 per cent is from Cuttack Municipal Corporation area. Cuttack Rural has reported around 1,400 cases till Sunday (August 9)
There are around 1,000 active cases in Cuttack disrtict as on Sunday, out of which more than 800 are from CMC area while around 250 are from Cuttack Rural. The recovery rate in Cuttack is around 66.03 per cent and the mortality rate is 0.01 per cent.
So far, around 2,000 persons have recovered while 11 persons have died due to COVID-19. In Cuttack, another 4 persons who had COVID-19 lost their lives due to other ailments.
Going by the figures shared by Chainy at a presser today, 35 out of 150 beds at Ashwini COVID hospital are free. Similarly, 26 out of 150 beds at GIMSAR COVID Health Centre are vacant. The ICU and ventilator situation in Cuttack is grim. “All 34 ICU beds meant for the treatment of COVID patients in the district are occupied. 15 out of 20 available ventilators are in use,” the Collector said.
There are eight COVID Care Centres in the district which have 1,230 beds. Out of these, 772 are occupied and 458 are available. “We are planning to have more ICUs and ventilators for COVID treatment for which efforts are on to setup another dedicated COVID hospital. We are hopeful that the new COVID hospital in Cuttack will be functional by next week,” Chainy said.
