New Delhi: With the highest single-day spike of 61,537 cases, India’s COVID-19 count rose to 20,88,612 on Saturday, said Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The total cases include 6,19,088 active cases and 14,27,006 cured/discharged/migrated, according to the Ministry of Health. The death-toll climbed to 42,518 with 933 people succumbing to the infection in 24 hours.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a cumulative 2,33,87,171 samples have been tested for coronavirus infection up to August 7 with 5,98,778 being tested on Friday.
With India crossing 20-lakh mark on Friday, the country is emerging as the biggest COVID-19 hotspot in the world in the world in August. According to a report by Times Of India, India has so far recorded the most number of fresh cases this month.
