Angul: ‘Miss 420’ of Angul was arrested today on charges of duping a retired doctor and looting more than Rs 4.5 lakhs from him.
The accused Supriya Swain alias Deepa (28) was an expert at changing names and her personalities accordingly, informed district police sources. While she works at DIPS Academy, she is known to have introduced herself as a fashion designer, wholesaler and even as an agent of a finance company on various occasions.
Supriya met the complainant, a retired doctor residing in Talcher, as an agent of a finance company. What began as a simple business dealing led to more personal interactions between the duo over time. Supriya was adept in sweet-talking people into revealing not only their personal matters but also finances.
Using her ‘skills’ she was finally able to get the doctor’s SBI ATM card along with the PIN.
It took some time before the poor doctor realised that an amount of Rs 4,57,385 was withdrawn from his account in instalments.
Shocked at first, he later lodged a complaint with Talcher police. Following the complaint, the police swung into action and lodged a case under section 420. Supriya was arrested and has been forwarded to court.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether there are other people who might have been duped by Miss 420 of Angul.
