Former DG Police, Odisha SN Tiwari Passes Away at 81

Bhubaneswar: Former Director General of Police Shyam Narayan Tiwari passed away today at a private hospital in the State capital. He was 81. His family sources said that he was battling cancer for quite some time.

A native of Rajkhariar (now Khariar), the veteran cop is survived by his wife and two sons. Passed from Allahabad University, he joined IPS in 1963 and served various positions in the State Police.

Tiwari is credited of spearheading almost all branches of the police department in Odisha and also in central policing organisations.

SN Tiwari served as DIG Central Range, Director (Intelligence), Director (Prisons), DG Police apart from successfully taking responsibility on central deputation as Joint Secy, Intelligence Bureau.

Tiwari was the first and the only police officer from Odisha to serve as Director SPG. Known for his expertise in Internal Security and anti-Naxal movement, SN Tiwari had brought in major reforms in Odisha Police.
