Bhubaneswar: Polling of votes for the Pipili Assembly seat bypoll will be held on May 13, informed, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO Odisha) Sushil Kumar Lohani today.
Lohani said that formal notification in this connection will be announced on April 19th (Monday).
Pipili bypoll which was scheduled to be held today (April 17) was cancelled following the death of Congress candidate Ajit Mangaraj on April 14 (Wednesday).
Mangaraj who had tested positive for Covid-19 succumbed to the illness while undergoing treatment at the Apollo Hospital here.
Mangaraj was nominated by the Congress party to contest the by-election to the Pipili constituency against Biju Janata Dal (BJD)’s Rudra Pratap Maharathy and BJP’s Ashrit Pattanayak.
The by-election in Pipili was necessitated following the death of senior BJD MLA Pradeep Maharathy in October last year.
