Bhubaneswar: Actress Deepa Sahu lost her battle with cancer and passed away at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar today. The 35-year-old actress was undergoing treatment for advanced-stage uterus cancer, which was detected a few months ago. She leaves behind her husband and a 10-year-old daughter.
As the news of her death spread, her colleagues from the film, television and music industries along with her fans mourned the untimely loss. Speaking to us from the hospital, actor Samaresh Routray said, “We are at the hospital with her family members. I convey my deepest condolences to them and pray for the departed soul.”
Her body was later taken to her native village in Dhenkanal, where she will be cremated.
Deepa was a popular face in Odia music videos in the turn of the century, when independent music was very popular in the state. She went to act in several films and television serials and became a household name. However, she had to prematurely retire from acting to take care of her mother, who, too, was suffering from cancer.
“It’s another sad news for us. Our very dear Deepa Sahu left us so early, just a few days after we lost Bijay Mohanty Sir. She was one of the most successful actresses during the heydays of Odia Indie music. May her soul rest in peace,” said actor Sabyasachi Mishra.
