COVID-19: Cases Continue To Surge In Khordha Dist, Majority From Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The Khordha district registered record single-day detection of COVID-19 with 312 new cases.

A staggering 820 new cases were detected in the district in last week, surging the district total to 3572 (on Tuesday afternoon). While there are still 1997 active cases, 1548 patients have recovered and been discharged.

Now a major chunk of the cases of Khordha district is from Capital city Bhubaneswar, as per the information shared by H&FW Department and the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Of the 223 novel coronavirus cases that were detected in Khordha district on July 27, a staggering 159 were from Bhubaneswar i.e. 71.30 per cent. And this is no single day occurrence. On July 26 too of the 187 cases, 163 were from the Capital City which comes to an 87.16 per cent. The sharing percentages are almost in the same range for the past week.

However, the increase in the number of positive cases is because of the intensive door-to-door health survey and testing. Additional Chief Secretary Health and Family Welfare Department Pradipta Mohapatra also urged people to not panic and sought their cooperation in this fight against the disease.

Bhubaneswar constitutes a major part of the district with respect to area and population. It is widely connected to the rest of the State and also the nation by road, rail and air.

With the steep rise in cases in the district and especially in Bhubaneswar, the fight against the deadly virus has also been intensified by the administration.
